The Manger
What is the human being,
to deserve such favour?
The Lord took hard, compacted earth
and hollowed-out a shallow imprint,
a vessel, that the cattle might be fed.
Empty, a manger is no more
than an uneven footing
for the blind.
This is the sign: the glory of
the Lord rests once again
within its imprint,
and all will be well.
